Things to Love About Owning a Home in Fort Myers

In Southwest Florida, I’m often asked which metro areas are the best to live in. And really, there isn’t any single answer. After all, for some home buyers Sarasota might have exactly what you’re searching for when it comes to the arts. On the other hand, Sanibel Island might be just what you want if you’re on the hunt for the laid-back island lifestyle. There really are so many choices.

So instead of picking just one, I knew we had to see the perks for each area in Southwest Florida. And this week, we’re going to explore some of the benefits to owning a home in the Fort Myers area. It really is a phenomenal place to live with amenities that you simply can’t find anywhere else. Let’s take a look!

Excellent parks like Lovers Key

Although every area of Southwest Florida has its own special outdoors, I truly love Lovers Key State Park. Not only is it a bit off the beaten path, which helps you beat the crowds, the park itself has a unique character that must be experienced. This tiny cluster of islands also has an interesting history and is great for a day at the beach.

The combination of city living and rural lifestyle

In the Fort Myers area, you can go from sleepy, beachside bars to upscale downtown restaurants. And then, the next minute, you can be on your way to a more secluded golf course or scenic horseback riding. Because of how our area has developed, you really get the best of all possibilities.

The fun around our multiple downtowns

From Downtown Fort Myers to Downtown Cape Coral and even the Sanibel strip on Periwinkle way, this area of Southwest Florida has several cores to enjoy. And of course, each one of them has their own delicious places to eat, have a drink, or hang out in. Of course, everyone has their favorite downtown when you’re a local, but I love visiting all of them throughout the year.

The beaches of Sanibel and Captiva

Now, I’m not going to knock Fort Myers beach for a second. As beaches go, it’s a wonderful place to take a dip, and it remains one of my favorites. However, if you’ve heard about the beaches on Sanibel and Captiva, you’ve probably also heard just how stunning they are. In fact, it’s hard to find beaches with shelling this good!

The local stories and the regional history

As a real estate agent in Southwest Florida, I love to keep up with the direction we’re going for the future, but I also love to understand the area’s history. For Fort Myers, that means visiting homes like the Edison and Ford Winter Estates. Or understanding how Sanibel has grown, even as the city has preserved its small-town feel. Owning a home in Fort Myers means you’ll have plenty more to discover as you fall in love with this fascinating slice of paradise.
