In addition to incorporating interesting design, they also capture an alternative way of life that is appealing to more and more Americans. Yet, there are several myths that have persisted about this trend. As we’re about to find out, the movement is bigger than any one-size-fits all approach.
A Tiny House Must be on Wheels
Even though some tiny home models may be on wheels, there’s nothing that says they can’t be more permanent structures. In fact, while you may want a home that allows you to travel more, there are numerous tiny homes that are designed to stay put in paradises like Southwest Florida.
Every Model is Cheaply Made
With a strong sense of DIY and financial freedom, the tiny house movement can give the perception that it’s all about cheap. However, nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, the movement is all about saving in one category, so you can enjoy another that you value more. For example, there’s nothing that says you can’t put a tiny home on a lovely piece of property with a waterfront view.
Tiny Homes are Too Tiny to Live In
Because everyone’s lifestyle is different, it’s impossible to say whether a home is “too tiny” or not. After all, what may be true for one family might be completely different for another. And as this movement has grown, it has shown that “tiny” can be just as much a great home as a huge home.
Most Communities Ban Tiny Houses from their Area
Although you’ll want to understand your area’s laws and codes, many communities welcome tiny homes. In fact, right here in Southwest Florida, Cape Coral changed some of the coding regarding home size. And as the movement grows even more, it’s likely that more cities will update their standards to match changing lifestyles.
Tiny houses are always off-the-grid
Sure, if you have a tiny home, you might be particularly conscious of your environmental impact. Maybe you even want solar panels and your own well. Still, many tiny homes are fully connected to the grid and may even be in major metropolitan areas.
